Historic Environment Record search request form

The Gloucestershire Historic Environment Record (HER) is the most comprehensive computerised index to Gloucestershire’s heritage. The c.42,000 records span the full range of human history from the Palaeolithic to the 20th century and include Neolithic and Bronze Age barrows, Iron Age hillforts, Roman villas, medieval settlements, field systems, industrial sites, railways and canals.

Public access to the information within the HER is encouraged. All enquirers are requested to use the online form which can be accessed via the ‘next’ button below (after agreeing to the conditions for access).

There will generally be no charge for non-commercial enquiries from students, members of the public and recognised archaeological and historical societies.

The County Council will, however, charge £122 + VAT (£146.40) for standard commercial requests and reserves the right to levy a higher charge for more extensive HER searches. In this case you are asked to contact  HER staff to confirm the extra cost before placing your order. The HER also reserves the right to make a charge for research projects that request large amounts of HER data and for copying large numbers of reports.

Enquiries are generally answered by post or email, however, users are free to access HER Information and/or supporting documentation in the HER Team offices by prior appointment.

All commercial requests will require an online payment to be made using a credit or debit card and the payment site requires an email address.

I, in completing the form, confirm that I have read, understood and accepted the conditions for access set out in the Gloucestershire Historic Environment Record Access Policy
